Singing Machine Karaoke Systems

By

If you’ve ever been to sing karaoke then you know how much fun it can be. But if you’re not really a singer or a fan of music, then you might also know how excruciating it can be. There’s something curious about karaoke because theoretically, it shouldn’t really work. Who would have thought when you put together:

Voiceless versions of popular songs

A room full of drunken strangers

First time singers, amateurs, and potentially horrible performances

Seemingly no quality control or pre-requisites for performing

= A great night of fun!

It’s strange but true, and what was once thought to be a passing fad has shown itself to be here to stay. Ironically part of the fun of karaoke is when other people sound bad. It’s never mean-spirited or bad natured, but most people take some delight when they hear a person who is totally off tune, and it’s the absolute best when the singer doesn’t even realize it! And of course there are always the surprise singers; people who don’t look like they’ll be any good but end up being a huge hit of the night. It can all be a lot of fun and the power of music really shines.

Singing Machine is my middle name

oh Yeah!
oh Yeah!

Singing Machine

Some people actually get addicted to karaoke. Whether they sound good or not, they go full force into the activity. They will either gather their friends and go to the karaoke bar whenever they can, or they will take the next step and get a personal karaoke system for their own home. If you are a person who has been bitten by the karaoke bug then there are a variety of options that will allow you to bring the activity to your living room.

Singing Machine is a company that has capitalized on the karaoke craze. They make home systems that will accommodate the needs of everyone from the casual karaoke fan to the hardcore.

Singing Machine SMG-137 CD+G Karaoke System

This is the simplest and most basic model that Singing Machine offers. It looks like an oversized radio system, but it is portable and light. You won’t get a bar-like experience with this little machine but it’s perfect for the casual singer who just wants to plug in a song and see what it sounds like. So for impromptu karaoke sessions in the middle of a party, then this system is for you. One thing to remember is that you will have to plug it into your TV to read the lyrics properly.

Singing Machine ISM-370 Multi-Function Karaoke System with iPod Docking

This is an example of the mid-range Singing machine available. The key selling feature is the iPod adaptability that will allow you to dock your iPod and play your favourite song. Just be sure to make sure you have an Apple product that is compatible! Also don’t expect the machine to be able to get rid of the artist’s voice track perfectly; in fact in some cases it won’t be able to do that. It’s more of a novelty to be able to use your iPod but it can’t really be described as a fully integrated feature that replaces the need for actual karaoke CDs.

Singing Machine STVG-999 Pedestal Karaoke System

This is the grand daddy of the singing machine catalogue and the price reflects that. You won’t want to buy this if you aren’t a hardcore singing fan, and do not just buy this for your children on a whim. This karaoke machine is expensive and although it is strong and durable, you won’t want any member of your family treating it as a toy. This system stands alone with everything that you will need: a cordless mic (with option for 2), a display screen, and various sound controls. You can also plug the video into your TV or the sound into a more complicated sound system. Basically it’s everything you need and it looks cool enough that you can put it anywhere in your home as a decorative piece that will certainly attract attention.

Plug it in and Start Singing!

So as you can see there is a good range of product out there. You don’t even have to go with Singing Machine as there are other companies that make systems as well. You’ll basically want something that comes with a mic and has space for a second one. You will also need a good form of display whether it be self contained or the ability to plug into your TV. Top it off with wireless headphones for TV and you're set!  It’s easy to get carried away when buying a singing machine, but try to stick to your budget and you’ll be able to find something suitable. So good luck to you, and to the people who have to listen to you sing!
